Posted on August 30th, 2009 in 811 | No Comments »

A company should look at medical insurance coverage for their employees. A lot of businesses have not invested in a health care plan since they think it’s costly and it hardly isn’t feasible based on the limited budget. A business can actually get a policy that’s affordable. Obtaining group medical plans doesn’t matter when you are a small company; there’s a program that can fulfill the group’s requirements.

The good thing in regards to health care providers today is they’re finding different ways to give companies more options. Some providers insure companies with 2 or more employees with affordable small group health insurance quote. Additionally, if your company offers these kinds of perks, it will help to retain workers, which is a savings.

One of the ways to help the business pay for these perks is from the money you’ll save by reducing the business’s employee turnover ratio because there’s an additional expense in recruiting, hiring, and training new workers. Employees will be more satisfied and loyal with businesses offering these types of benefits. This reason alone can help the coverage pay for itself.

Internet tools are convenient for browsing and getting rate estimates for comparison. This is a good way to scout out the industry. It is convenient because all you do is complete an easy form asking for information in regards to the company as well as the number of employees to get you on your way to buying a group health insurance policy.

The employees will be offered varied kinds of policies to pick from in order to meet his or her financial plan. You’ll discover affordable as well as costly premiums, depending upon if you request the deductibles to be lower or higher. You will also find in-network and out-of-network health care plans.

Insurance carriers work with your company to tailor a package specific to your requirements and financial requirements. They work to design small group health plans to give you a savings to keep it at a low-cost for you. Policies include extras such as dental exams, eye exams, life, and health savings accounts.

If you don’t maintain the staff to deal with the forms, providers now offer online self-servicing functionality permitting employees to contend with it on their own. The employees will be able to use the website to sign-up, add family members, as well as alter selections. A group medical policy can pay off for you while you reap savings.

A person will want to see some information in a B&B website that will help them decide whether to stay in the B&B or not. This is why you have to place lots of thought, and hire professionals to build the right website of your bed and breakfast.

Many bed and breakfast owners give the job of creating their website to their friends or relatives, in a bid to save money. The drawback of this option is an incomplete website that does not work at drawing guests to the B&B.

Visitors to a B&B website will expect beautiful pictures of the rooms, along with the breakfast room with breakfast served on it.You can create a website that effectively shows off your B&B better by using a modern web editor and digital camera, if you are competent enough to use it.

Basically, it is better to leave your web designing to an expert as they give better results. It is even better to hire a professional photographer to click better photos of your rooms than you, to place in your website.

Apart from providing pictures or photos of your B&B, your website should also be packed with information such as room rates and availability. With this information, potential guests can easily make bookings and even payments without any hassles.

To meet this purpose, many B&B owners have web designers include availability charts to their websites, along with provisions for online booking. So it can be said that the best B&B website will be created by a professional web designer.

The most important thing to remember is to choose a web designer for your website, who has sufficient knowledge and expertise about the bed and breakfast business, and who will thus be able to know what to highlight in your website. (This way, your B&B website is sure to improve your occupancy levels~Your occupancy levels are thus sure to improve with the B&B website~The B&B website will thus improve your occupancy levels)

Safety in Hotel Business Centres

Posted on August 30th, 2009 in 803 | No Comments »

Most hotels today have business centres which provide continuous access to the internet, fax machines, PCs, printers and other amenities customers may require to continue with their business.Though these business centres are a boon to travellers, you have to be careful when you use their services.

An Ethernet connection in the hotel is a safer option for you to use if you have a laptop.Though this may be expensive, this wired option provides better protection from hackers.Disabling the file and printer sharing mode of the laptop is always safer before you connect to the internet.

It is better to find out who provides wireless service to the hotel if you have to use the wireless option. You are sure that no one will be able to hack into your system and database if you use safe providers.

You have to use the business centre as the last option, if there is no Ethernet connection or safe hotspot in the hotel. However as many people will be here and can easily access your laptop, this option has to be the last resort

The reason for this is that most hotel business centres don’t pay much attention about providing basic security. Some of them use the administrator account of the hotel for logging on, and usually without passwords .

People in these hotels can use the computer to install whatever program they want. This makes it easy for people to accidentally or purposely hack the PC security using viruses and also to modify the computer system’s security settings .

So if you have to use the hotel business centre, it is better to use it only for essential tasks and never for banking or confidential business.Work in the business centre, thinking that there are attackers watching whatever you do.Moreover, as soon as you return to your home or office, make it a point to change the passwords to all the sites and accounts you had accessed via the business centre.

We Heart Photography

Posted on August 28th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Here at Art and Design central, we recently heard the great news that two friends of Chronicle are teaming up in an exciting new way. The legendary Jen Bekman (of 20×200 and The Jen Bekman Gallery fame) has hired our very own beloved former editor Alan Rapp to be Associate Director of Hey Hot Shot!, one of the coolest photo contests around. The announcement is here, and you can find out more about the contest here—we’re as pleased as punch that two such delightful folks are going to be working together to make cool things happen in the world of photography going forward.

This got me thinking—in truth, it doesn’t take much—about photography books. And from photo books in general it’s only ever a short leap to thinking about our very own photo books. And from there the train of thought just naturally rolls right along to the freshly hatched crop of new photography titles we’ve got lined up for you this Fall. So, a little preview seems to be in order!

Closer by Elinor Carruci—this classic of contemporary photography celebrates and interrogates family, intimacy, the body, and human relationships. Now back in hardcover for the first time in five years, it’s also available as a limited edition with a signed and numbered print.

Jim Marshal Proof special edition—Michelle blogged here last week about the story of bringing this stunning collectors edition into being. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have such an astonishing testament of artistry and rock on our list.

Taking Aim—rock and roll legend and photographer Graham Nash has selected his favorite rock photographs from a stellar line up of shooters. Published to accompany an exhibition at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, the book comes with an audio CD on which Graham himself walks you through the history of rock and roll.

Katharine Hepburn: A Life in Pictures—this sumptuous collection of images reveals the beloved actress. One of my personal favorites, she was a fashion icon, legend of the silver screen, and true class act.

Bird—photographer Andrew Zuckerman’s follow up to Creature has had people around our office going absolutely nuts with delight and wonder—trust me, you are not going to believe how amazingly beautiful these birds are.

Great White—for those who like their animal photography a little higher up the food chain we have this jaw-dropping volume from shark expert Chris Fallows (creator of the Shark Week favorite Air Jaws). Never before have sharks been this handsome, this awe inspiring, or this air-born.

The Graphic Eye—Stefan Bucher together photos by 120 top graphic designers in this quirkily enigmatic collection. You may not think of designers as photographers, but it turns out that their unique visual perspective catches things the rest of us might miss—seen through their eyes the world is stranger and more wonderful.

Polaroid Notes—last but not least we have these delightful notecards honoring the gone-but-not-forgotten sprit of the Polaroid. Suzanne said it best when she blogged here about our love affair with the legendary film and cameras. Suffice it to say I don’t plan on sending anything but these cards to anyone on my correspondence list for a long time to come—they’re that great.

That’s all for now. Take care folks, and keep your camera and your photo books close at hand—you never know when the need for some film-derived happiness might strike.

Chronicle Craft Preview: Lotta Jansdotter’s Printing Studio

Posted on August 27th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

craftblogicon.jpg

It is with much pleasure that I announce the release of Lotta Jansdotter’s Printing Studio!

This craft kit has been literally years in the making. Creating these DIY delights involves many steps and lots of love and care to get it right. First, Lotta comes up with the projects, testing different materials and writing instructions and tips clearly so we mere mortals can achieve the same great-looking results she does. For this project, she even provided us with pages from her sketchbook to reveal a bit about where she gets ideas for her projects and fabric designs.

Lotta tapped her friend and fellow Swede Jenny Hallengren to contribute truly topnotch photographs. Jenny shot photos in both Sweden and Brooklyn. And the booklet in this kit has helpful process shots and stellar shots of finished projects so you really get lots of ideas.

Meanwhile, here at Chronicle a designer, a production coordinator, and I (an editor) are working hard to get the format for the box and the contents just right. The production coordinator sources all the materials, from the nifty ribbon handle to the lovely woodfree uncoated paper used in the thread-stitched booklet, and the two wooden-handled carving tools, soft printing sponges, and sheets of cardstock that are diecut with Lotta’s original stencil designs.

For this particular project we went through many, many rounds of prototyping to get the box just so – we like to add windows so you can sneak a peak inside if you’re browsing in a store. And we made sure to use a heavy stock for the box so it’s sturdy in transport and can be used to stash your stuff between printing sessions. And the cotton handle? Come on, we couldn’t resist!

Lotta’s Printing Studio just released this month, so be sure to pick one up today. You can order here. And, because we love hearing your comments, I’ll send one copy to a lucky reader (picked at random) who leaves us a note below.

Thanks for stopping by!

A Reader’s Critique of To Train Up a Child

Posted on August 27th, 2009 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Two extremes in child training are prevalent in our day. Permissiveness is the first. The modern idea was made popular by Dr. Spock, who taught that discipline hindered the child’s evolution. The other extreme is to spank the child for everything. Neither of these extremes is consistent with Scripture.

No Greater Joy, the ministry of Michael and Debi Pearl, began with the publication of their book To Train Up a Child back in 1994. Now, fifteen years later, the book has proven to be a best seller with over 650,000 in print. The premise of the book is to teach parents how to train up their children rather than discipline them up.

Beyond theoretical platitudes, the book is filled with illustrations from real families, including their own, and laced with plenty of humor. The Pearls used this method in raising their own five children. The teaching continues to be applies in the training of their 14+ grandchildren.

In the words of the Pearls themselves, one major goal of the books is, “no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home, and total obedience from your children”. Remember, this ‘too good to be true’ goal has been achieved by thousands of satisfied readers. As a matter of fact, questions and testimonies from readers brought about the magazine No Greater Joy. These articles are compiled into three volumes called No Greater Joy volumes one through three.

This is not a book of secret formulas never before unveiled. Their answer: “These truths are not new, deep insights from the professional world of research, but rather, the same principles the Amish use to train their stubborn mules, the same technique God uses to train His children. These principles are profoundly simple and extremely obvious. After examining them with us, you will say, ‘I knew that all along. Where have I been? It’s so obvious.’”

The emphasis of the book is found in the title, i.e. training. It contains principles to train a child before discipline is needed and to maintain an appropriate fellowship with our children, not a buddy nor a tyrant relationship.

Again, from the Pearls: “The stress will be gone and your obedient children will praise you and bring joy and peace into your home. Thousands have testified to the amazing results of these profoundly simple techniques”

Some of the chapter titles include, Parental Anger, Selective Submission, Safety Training, Potty Training, Emotional Control, Self-Indulgence, Bullies, and The Rod. You get even more if you purchase it now for recently To Train Up a Child was updated and expanded, yet remains reasonably priced.

Parents don’t have time for a hit and miss approach to child rearing. We want to use techniques that apply Biblical principles to real life situations, in short, things that are guaranteed to work. In a mere 122 pages, To Train Up a Child gives you that very thing. If you are a frustrated parent, or know someone who is and is open to fresh ideas, this six dollars might well be a life-changing investment.
